Meta Apologises After PM Narendra Modi’s Video Was Unavailable for Nearly Five Hours

The controversy arose after a video related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with Gen-Z and students became unavailable on the platform. Following the restriction on the Prime Minister’s post, the government expressed strong concern over the incident.

Parliamentary Committee Chairman Nishikant Dubey said Meta had admitted that the video remained unavailable from 12:30 a.m. until 5:00 a.m., describing the removal of the Prime Minister’s Gen-Z and student-related video for five to six hours as a serious matter.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Director of the Lok Sabha Secretariat stated that if Meta failed to issue an apology, its security-related exemptions would be withdrawn.

Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg also apologised for shortcomings in the operation of the company’s platforms, including issues related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), deepfake content, and deficiencies in platform operations.
